A day that is commemorated to honour the soldiers serving in India’s armed forces as well as the veterans, is of special importance to Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (Retd). It has been celebrated every year for the past 73 years as a mark of respect to our Country’s Armed Forces.
On the occasion of “Armed Forces Flag Day”, Sainik Welfare and Rehabilitation Director, Brigadier Amrit Lal (Retd) met the Governor and hoisted the flag. Also present on the occasion were Deputy Director Military Welfare Colonel MS Jodha (Retd), Subedar Major ML Bhatt and Shri Hemchandra Choubey.
Whilst congratulating soldiers, ex-servicemen and families, the Governor spoke of the immense bravery of the martyred officers of the state. “It is in those souls that India continues to remain fearless and strong.” He instructed the officers of the Sainik Welfare Department to initiate and develop a concrete system across the 13 districts of the state, to help solve the nuances of ex-servicemen, heroic women, gallantry award winners and their families.
In addition to this, the Governor propagated a few suggestions and asked for an immediate follow-up for the same. He emphasised on the need for special efforts for ECHS (Health Services) and CSD canteen facility to ensure a smooth after-service life for ex-servicemen. He further asked for a comprehensive list containing their phone numbers as well.
Uttarakhand is a military land and it should be our endeavour to provide maximum help to the ex-servicemen and the families of the martyred soldiers of the state. During the occasion, the Governor contributed a significant amount to the Armed Forces Flag Fund and called upon the people of the state to pay their respects as well.
