HARIDWAR: A school manager has been arrested for allegedly thrashing a Class 3 student, who later succumbed to his injuries, in Haridwar district of Uttara- khand, police said on Thursday.
According to the police, nine- year-old Ali Ahmed, who was a student at Rahmaniya Interme- diate College in Bhagwanpur, Haridwar was thrashed up by school manager Jeeshan Ali on December 10.
“The accused thrashed the boy for talking during the class and behaving in an indisciplined manner,” said a police official.
The minor’s father Naseem Ahmed in his police complaint said that his son came back bleeding from the school. “My son was bleeding after he was beaten up by the school manager Jeeshan All for talking during the class,” he alleged.
In the afternoon, the parents rushed the child to a Saharan- pur-based medical centre, from where doctors referred the child la to a higher medical institution in Chandigarh. Ali later succumbed to his injuries in Chandigarh hospital on Tuesday, said police.
After the parents returned to i Roorkee on Wednesday evening, they lodged a police complaint at Bhagwanpur police station alleg- ing that the “school manager has beaten up their son which led to his death”. “On the complaint of Naseem Ahmed, a case was reg- istered against Ali,” said Bhag- wanpur SHO Rajiv Rauthan.
“We have arrested Ali from Bhagwanpur and are investigat- ing the case. We have taken statements of more than 40 stu- dents, teaching, and non-teach- ing staff in this regard,” the police said. The accused Ali, however, claimed that “he didn’t thrash the student physically.” said a police official.
A case of culpable homicide under Section 304 of the IPC has been registered, said police. Despite repeated requests, the school management refused to comment on the matter.
